'The Ben' really is a spectacular, challenging, demanding, potentially dangerous, and awe-inspiring lump of a mountain. The Ben is Britain's highest mountain and is simply stunning. If you get the right day you'll be rewarded with wonderful panoramic views from its lofty top at 1,344m. But, somehow even the bad days on The Ben can be just as precious, as memorable, as all those spent under cloudless blue skies.

There are a good seven or more routes on the mountain that are suitable for walkers, the most popular being the main track or pony track up from Glen Nevis youth hostel, while mountaineers usually tackle the routes up the great crags of the mountain's north face. Even if you're taking the popular walking or running up route, it's a fairly hard slog and a knee-crunching descent. There may be other perhaps more beautiful and challenging mountains in Scotland, but The Ben gets the people's vote as the 'big one' to climb every time.

But this map set is not just about Ben Nevis itself. The surrounding areas also offer some stunning scenery like the Grampians, Ben Alder, the waters of Loch Rannoch, Loch Linnhe and Loch Leven, the remote wildness of Buachaille Etive Mor, forest of Glen Etive and the scene of the famous massacre at Glen Coe.
