An unofficial new 79-mile walking route – the Skye Trail – is the best way to discover the landscape and the history, in a 7-stage trek from top to toe of this captivating island.
Starting at the headland of Rubha Hunish, the trail makes its way down to the island's picturesque captial, Portree, and on to Broadford, passing the dramatic Trotternish and Cuillin Ridges as well as a clutch of historic sites, from Iron Age forts to the ruins of communities abandoned in the Clearances.
